Yorkshire Three Peals

Starkey Electrical teamed up with the Stourbridge branch of C.E.F. to say Balls to Cancer!

We teamed up with our friends at CEF to tackle the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge to raise much needed funds for charity in honour of a friend with cancer.

We completed the hike in a not-too-shabby 11 hours and 36 minutes. We hiked up and down Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside, and Ingleborough, covering a total of 24.5 miles and a 1,500M ascent. Trust us to pick the hottest day of the year. I’ve never hated the sun more! The heat definitley added to the challenge.

We’ve so far managed to raise £965 for Balls to Cancer. With your help we can get to our £1,000 target!

The inspiration for the challenge is Simon Rikunenko, a friend of the team, who has raised over £4,000 for Balls to Cancer, a charity which has helped him greatly in his own fight against cancer.

Simon was recently given only 12 months to live, but is determined to make the most of it by “living and not giving up.” His story has struck a chord with the employees at Starkey Electrical and CEF and has given them the motivation to complete the challenge.

Stuart Starkey, CEO at Starkey Electrical, said: “We’re very excited to take on this challenge together with our friends at CEF. Simon’s story has inspired us all and his attitude to ‘live and not give up’ is something we should all aspire to do with our lives. Not only does the challenge allow us to do just that, but it’s also a great opportunity to raise money for a cause that is close to our hearts. It’s sure to be a great experience all round – we’re ready and raring to go.”

Starkey Electrical has a strong sense of commitment to the local community and is proud to have raised almost £12,000 for various charities since 2018.

According to the NHS, every year in the United Kingdom, close to 300,000 people are diagnosed with cancer – 800 people a day on average.

Balls for Cancer was established in 2011 to support people dealing with cancer, like Simon, and their families.

It provides chemotherapy support packs to help people deal with the side effects of chemotherapy and funds holidays to give well-deserved breaks to those who need them most.
